1. For how long can I keep borrowing books as a final year student?

You can keep borrowing books until 5th June 2015. By this date, you need to have returned all items on loan and to have paid off all charges, to enable you to graduate this summer.

2. For how long can I keep accessing library databases?

Your Faculty sets a Qualification Aim End Date when you start your course – this is the date by which you will have completed your course. Access to library databases stops on your Qualification Aim End Date. If you get an extension for your studies, you need to make sure that your Faculty have also extended your Qualification Aim End Date or your access will stop before you’ve finished your studies.

3. I have been issued a lift key, for how long can I keep it?

You can keep using a lift key until your Qualification Aim End Date. However, the key issued to you has to be returned to the library by the same date you have to return all your loaned books.  You can then have a key issued to you, for use within the Kimberlin library, which must be returned the same day before leaving the building. Fines accrued on these items by Final Year students must be cleared on return of the items and before being able to borrow a lift key again.

Items for “Library Use Only” are:

  • Lift keys*
  • Disability Support Room keys*
  • Syndicate Room keys.

* Can only be borrowed if you’ve previously been able to loan these items.

4. For how long can I keep coming into the Kimberlin Library, Law Library or Eric Wood Learning Zone?

You can access the library buildings using your existing student card until Week 0 of the new Academic Year, which this year is 28th September 2015.

5. For how long can I keep accessing PCs within the Library?

You are able to log on to PCs, access to generic software – Internet, Microsoft Office, and to access your own S drive for the retrieval of files until Week 0 of the new Academic Year, which this year is 28th September 2015. This is in line with current, University-wide, ITMS policy.

6. Can I attend IT Training courses once I've finished my course?

You are able to complete existing IT courses which constitute an assessed element of the course you were studying or which were already commenced before the end of your course of study. There is a cut off date of Week 0 of the new Academic Year, which this year is 28th September 2015, by which you will need to have completed your IT Training courses. This is in line with current, University-wide, ITMS policy.

7. Can I still book CLaSS 1:1 Support sessions, or a place on their Summer Schools, if I’ve finished my final exams?

You are able to book 1:1 Support Sessions and to book places on Workshops / Summer Schools with CLaSS so long as they take place before your Qualification Aim End Date. However, priority for oversubscribed Workshops will be given to non-Final Year students.

8. How can I access the library after the start of the next academic year?

As a DMU alumnus, you can either have reference access to the library as a member of the public, or you can complete a form through the alumni association which will enable you to borrow up to 4 items at a time from the library.

9. Can I still borrow library books over the summer if I have re-sits or assignments to finish?

Final year students who need to do re-sits or who have extensions for assignments can continue to borrow library stock after 5th June, so long as we have proof from the Faculty that they are still studying. You would need to bring either a module reassessment form from your Faculty or a letter from the Faculty on headed paper, confirming that you have course work to finish or exam re-sits and giving a date by which you will have finished your studies.

Students aren't able to come in to the library and just say they have a re-sit, you do have to show some proof from the Faculty that this is the case, but if you couldn't prove this, perhaps if you were waiting for a letter or module reassessment form, you would still be able to come into the library and use it for reference purposes in the meantime.
